Advanced search techniques

Boolean logic is a fancy term for combining keywords together with the words AND, OR or NOT.

AND
  • Using the AND operator between terms retrieves documents containing all of the terms
  • This narrows strong> the search.
  • This example will retrieve records that contain both Blue and Yellow
  • AND
OR
  • OR operator retrieves documents containing either term
  • This broadens the search.
  • This example will retrieve records that contain Blue ,Yellow or both Blue and Yellow
  • OR
NOT
  • NOT excludes terms from your search
  • Use NOT with caution.
  • This example will retrieve records that contain Yellow , but that do not contain Blue
  • NOT
