There are various libraries across the country and each library has their own resources to cater the needs of different subject background users. Currently, libraries are faced with pressing issues of not being able to fulfill the resource needs of users. Moreover, a huge amount of fund is required to procure resources.
If these resources are shared among different libraries, then the utilization of the resources would be maximized. Also the sharing of resources through consortium based is seen as a viable alternative to free librarians from these limited budget crisis. This workshop enables librarians to come together to share knowledge and idea to build and initiate the resource sharing network within libraries.
Objectives
The main objective of the workshop is two-fold:
• Building the resource sharing network
By initiating the formulation of the Bhutanese Library Consortium the use of resources becomes more effective. The latest information sharing and collaborative tools will also be introduced to the participants.
• Strengthen the collaborative relationship among librarians
By educating the participants on the importance of using the same integrated library system packages, which allow us to share expertise in trouble shooting technical problems. The workshop also aims at establishing an annual librarian conference: which would promote the latest information sharing and collaboration tools, new technologies, concepts, knowledge and ideas.
Partner organization and target participants
The workshop will be organised by the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment. In addition, we are partnering with the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), an non-government organization (NGO) and the Royal Thimphu College (RTC), a private college.
