A two day final consultative national stakeholder workshop for the Bhutan TEEB study was held at Jambayang resort in Thimphu, Bhutan from 15 – 16 June 2017.

The Bhutan-TEEB study estimated that savings of almost a million US dollars per hydropower plant will accrue by 2030 due to reduced siltation as a result of better water catchment management.

The study employed a variety of participatory spatial planning tools such as System Thinking, Marxan and InVEST. The study, which was led by UWICER was conducted in collaboration with the Druk Green Power Corporation, the Department of Hydropower and Power Systems, the Department of Renewable Energy, the Watershed Management Division and the Forest Resources Management Division of the Department of Forests and Park Services The study assessed a total of 9 ecosystem services for 5 hydropower plants [two under-construction and three planned for construction].

The Honourable Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests who graced the closing session of the workshop endorsed the results and emphasized that a follow up study to determine sediment loads be conducted.
