GPS & GIS TRAINING FOR DZFOS

A 6-day training programme began at Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE) at Bumthang from 5th September 2011.
The main objectives of the training are to provide field forestry staff with understanding and skills to carryout survey with GPS and its application, prepare maps using simple software (Oziexplorer & ArcGIS); and perform simple analysis like parameter and area calculation using maps.

The training is jointly organized by the UWICE and the Social Forestry Division/Participatory Forest Management Project (PFMP) of the Department of Forests and Park Services. The training is being attended by field staff from the 20 Dzongkhag Forestry Sector.

Similar training will also be organized for field staff of the territorial divisions and the park management from 18th September 2011.
