TRAINING ON WILDLIFE SURVEY DESIGN AND FIELD TECHNIQUES

A 10 day training on Wildlife Survey Design and Field Techniques began on 27th May, 2012 at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment. The training program is being attended by 18 staff of Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary. The resource person for this training is Dr. Ellen Cheng from the United States with the help of other faculty from the Institute. Mr. kuenzang Dorji is the co-teacher for this training.


The core objectives of the training are:
•    Designing field surveys for assessing distribution and relative abundance of         carnivores, small- and mid-sized mammals, birds, and aquatic invertebrates and fish
•    Summarizing, interpreting and presenting wildlife survey data
•    Designing and conducting wildlife questionnaire surveys
•    Assessing terrestrial biodiversity
•    Designing and conducting vegetation surveys
•    Basic handling of field equipment including GPS units, compasses, small mammal live-traps, and camera traps
The training will combine classroom lectures, computer exercises, and field practicals.
