A delegation from the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Conservation and Environment (UWICE) comprised of the Director of UWICE, the Chief Human Resources Officer of the Ministry of Agriculture and two other officers from UWICE successfully completed their meetings with the University of Montana yesterday (27.04.2012).
After a series of meetings over five days, a letter of intent was signed between the University of Montana and the UWICE by the Provost, Dr. Perry Brown and the Director of UWICE.
The letter of intent is signed within the framework of the MoU signed last May in Bhutan between the two institutes. The letter details areas of cooperation over the next five years between the two institutes which includes amongst others University of Montana’s commitment to providing scholarships for 2 PhDs and 1 MSc. Two Professors (Professor Jill M. Belsky and Stephen F. Siebert) from the University of Montana donated about USD 11,000.00 to the Jigme Singye Wangchuck Endowment fund of UWICE. The amount donated will be used to undertake research activities within the framework of the endowment fund.
The book on "Wildlife Research Techniques in Rugged Mountainous Landscapes" edited by Professor L. Scott Mills and Tshering Tempa of UWICE, currently enrolled at the university, launched and presented to be published soon. The book will serve as the main guide to wildlife research in the Himalayan region.
