Completion of Nature Guide and Eco-tourism Course at UWICE

The second batch of “Nature Guiding & Ecotourism course” which began on 3rd March 2016 concluded with the awarding of certificates at the institute on 29th April 2016. The certificate awarding ceremony was graced by Mr. Tshering Tempa, Officiating Director and attended by the faculty and other staff members. Officiating Director, on his keynote address, advised the graduates to make best use of the knowledge and skills they gained through this course in conserving Bhutan’s natural resources and in nature guiding & ecotourism. White-bellied Heron Sighted for the First Time in East

A lone White-Bellied Heron (Ardea insignis) was sighted for the first time from Jamkhardrang near Gomkora under Tashiyangtse Dzongkhag by the second batch of Nature Guide and Eco-tourism trainees at UWICE during their field excursion on 18th April 2016.  It is now another new habitat for the Globally threatened bird in Bhutan. Review Paper on Status of Asiatic Golden Cat in Bhutan

Status Assessments are important to see whether significant data gaps exist for efficient and effective conservation of species. A paper has just been published by UWICE researcher Tashi Dhendup in an attempt to assess the status of Asiatic Golden Cat (Catopuma temminckii) in Bhutan and the need for further studies.

Training on High Altitude and Wilderness First Aid

A Week long training on High Altitude and Wilderness First Aid is underway at UWICE from 17th to 23rd April, 2016. The Training is targeted to equip field personal from the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) who are engaged in monitoring and patrolling of high altitude areas in case of medical emergency.
